About This CME Teaching Activity
This CME teaching activity provides a practical review of current topics in gastrointestinal pathology. Dr. Rhonda Yantiss discusses diagnostic pearls that can help surgical pathologists handling cases from the gastrointestinal tract, as well as the pitfalls to be aware of to avoid misdiagnoses. Topics focus on biopsy interpretation and cover a spectrum of inflammatory conditions, as well as colorectal polyps. Appendiceal neoplasms and colorectal cancer staging issues are also addressed.

Recognize, assess and diagnose colorectal polyps.

Develop a differential diagnosis for the malabsorptive pattern in duodenal biopsies.

Distinguish IBD from its mimics.

Recognize various types of esophageal injury in biopsy samples.

Develop an approach to patterns of gastric injury.

Identify key features that aid pathologic assessment of colorectal carcinomas.

Formulate a differential diagnosis for mass-forming lesions of the anus.
