Syllabus for Registrants

This seminar has been designed to provide a comprehensive overview of some of the most common areas of diagnostic difficulty encountered by practicing pathologists in the areas of breast, genitourinary, and hepatobiliary pathology. The course will provide details of some of the most important diagnostic features which allow pathologists to make accurate diagnoses in each of these subspecialty areas, as well as how to assess essential diagnostic clues and avoid the most common diagnostic pitfalls. Each lecture will also provide a discussion on the use of ancillary diagnostic techniques, including immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology. Some of the lectures will also include case-based discussions. There will be sufficient time for interactive discussions between all of the faculty members and all participants.

This CME activity is primarily intended and designed to educate practicing pathologists.

Attendees should, at the completion of this course, be able to:

  • Recognize the most common benign mimickers of prostate cancer
  • Identify prostatic lesions with cribriform architecture, including both benign and malignant lesions
  • Describe the pitfalls in prostatectomy evaluation and staging
  • Recognize flat and deceptively bland urothelial lesions, as well as papillary urothelial lesions
  • Describe the most common diagnostic pitfalls in testicular biopsy analysis, including impact on clinical management
  • Identify the most useful immunohistochemical markers in daily practice of breast pathology
  • Recognize the prognostic and predictive markers in breast pathology
  • Review the essential diagnostic features of intraductal epithelial proliferations of the breast
  • Discuss the differential diagnostic features of papillary lesions of the breast
  • Recognize what every surgical pathologist needs to know when evaluating sentinel lymph node pathology in breast cancer
  • Identify the most important diagnostic and immunohistochemical features of primary liver neoplasms and how to distinguish these from metastatic lesions
  • Recognize the most common epithelial lesions of the gallbladder
  • Discuss the diagnostic features of the various pancreatic cystic lesions
  • Review the most important diagnostic features to evaluate in every medical liver biopsy
